Children's Ministry Policies

  • Wellness

    • Any child attending nursery or Children's Church at Resurrection Presbyterian must be symptom free (of those symptoms listed below) for 24 hours.

      • Fever

      • Frequent, loose, or watery stools

      • Vomiting

      • Rash of unknown origin

    • If any child shows any of the above symptoms while under care at Resurrection Presbyterian, his/her parent or caregiver will be paged.

  • Injury/First Aid

    • We can only administer Band-aids and ice packs. For any other injury, the child's parent/guardian will be contacted and an incident report will be completed.

    • For children with severe allergies requiring an epi-pen, please notify the child's teacher as well as the nursery coordinator.

  • Safety

    • Classroom Ratios

      • We closely monitor the ratios of each room to ensure a safe environment for our children. If a room should go over the stated ratio, we will ask a member to volunteer.

        • Nursery (0-2 years old), 3:1 child:adult ratio

        • Class 1 (3 years old - 4yrs old), 5:1 child:adult ratio

        • Class 2 (K - 1st grade), 5:1 child:adult ratio

        • Class 3 (2nd - 3rd grade), 5:1 child:adult ratio

      • Generally, we promote children the first Sunday of August

  • Restroom and Diapering (From our Child Protection Policy)

    • Bathroom: “No adult should take a child to the bathroom alone. Elementary children should be sent to the bathroom in groups of at least two or three. If a child is potty training, an adult should ensure the bathroom is safe before allowing such a small child to enter alone. Encourage the child to go on their own. If the child needs assistance, involve another adult to ensure there is no one adult-one child situation. When assisting, allow for accountability while respecting the privacy of the child as much as possible.”

    • Diapers: "We ask women to change diapers unless the man is the father of the child. When changing diapers, inform another nursery worker, and change the diaper quickly and with respect for the child.” We will make every effort to have a female in each room to be available for diaper changes. Should the volunteer schedule not allow for such, the nursery coordinator on duty will change diapers.

  • Two-Adult Rule

    • There must always be two non-related adults present when supervising one or more children. This rule is designed for the safety of minors as well as adults, and is required across ministry areas with few exceptions. Compliance to the two-adult rule includes the following.

      • There must always be two adults present when supervising one or more children

      • The two adults must not be related family members (a married couple would be considered "related"). If two related adults are working together, a third person must be in attendance.

      • The adults supervising the children should be in sight of each other at all times.

    • The purpose of the two adult rule is to make sure the actions of any staff or volunteer is observed by another staff or volunteer. This is to protect the staff and volunteer as well as the children.

Children's Ministry Volunteers

  • Nursery (0-2.5 years)

    • All active members of Resurrection who are in good standing serve in the nursery on a quarterly basis. Before you are cleared to serve, you must have a background check.

  • Children's Church (3yrs - 3rd grade)

    • We welcome volunteers for both teaching and assisting roles for Children’s Church. If you’d like to get involved, please contact Lizzy. Before you are cleared to serve, you must attend a Children’s Church training, and have a background check. Note: those serving in Children’s Church are relieved of Nursery duty.

  • Arrival and Setup

    • When serving in nursery, please arrive twenty-five minutes prior to the service. You will want to arrive promptly so that you can greet children as they arrive.

    • When teaching Children’s Church, please arrive fifteen minutes prior to the service. You’ll want to have a moment to check in with the Children’s staff workers before service starts.
